Choosing Your Scleral Lens Materials

December 16, 2023/in Lab Tips/by michele

Which polymers are you choosing? There are different properties and customizations, depending on the material you choose.

If you are using Contamac materials, and the lens has a hydrophobic spot, Contamac recommends soaking the lens longer than usual when cleaning, up to 48 hours. This extra long soak helps with wettability, as dirt and grease on the lens inhibit wettability.

Would you like color in the lenses? The ice blue option from Boston XO2 may be helpful for patients who have difficulty seeing clear lenses. The composition of the material is the same as the regular XO2 material, including UV protection. Order the XO2 ice blue material for your scleral lenses in FitConnect.

  1. Log into your FitConnect account and select your patient
  2. When placing your order, use the drop-down menu next to Material. Boston XO2 (Ice Blue) is the last option.
